It talks about the life and struggles of Prince Albert who stutters and struggles to find his way into adulthood during World War I. The film is directed by Tom Hooper and written by David Seidler. The movie tells the story of Albert, played by Colin Firth. Albert learns to use his impediment as an asset rather than a liability when he works with an unorthodox speech therapist named Lionel Logue, played by Geoffrey Rush. In the beginning, the movie begins with Albert's story from before his speech impediment occurred. It is a period of time when he is a child. He learns that his father died and the family did not have a lot of servants. Albert's mother, played by Helena Bonham Carter is a noble woman who adores her childrens' education and knowledge. The way she tells Albert to speak clearly at home led him to believe that he would be better off if he could speak loudly in public. In one sequence in the film, she reminds Albert of all the times he tried to talk to other people while speaking clearly but was unable to due to his impediment which made him sound silly. Albert's two sisters, played by Emily Watson and Emma Thompson are very conservative and do not like Albert. He used to be a boy who enjoyed playing and having fun and they were uncomfortable with that. The film does not give too much away because we see the relationship between Albert and his family play out in front of us throughout the rest of the film. Albert meets a man named Lionel Logue, played by Geoffrey Rush. During his introduction to Logue, he is asked to describe someone he loves the most in the world. He chooses his mother, which makes Logue wonder whether Albert is stuttering or if he has something else wrong with him. Albert introduces himself and Logue immediately knows he has a problem, but insists that Albert speak clearly. Logue explains to Albert that stuttering is a result of something called somatization which means that his body is holding on to emotions that would be better expressed through his mouth. We see the process unfold as Logue takes Albert into a room where he has been secretly recording him talking. He has been using this recording to work on prodding the anger from his neck and neck muscles. In order for Logue to succeed in helping Albert, they have to take the anger out of the neck muscles by breaking them down slowly through a series of exercises. cfa1e77820
