I read about them in The Independent, which has a British tendency to prefer obscure bands over American ones, and the article says they write their own songs. They are from California , but do not have an American singer or drummer because …you know….they are an unknown band. But they did get to play … I think it was Warped Tour . The band has a short history with a range of seven years. They range from a straight forward punk with a high guitar, fast drumming and a lot of energy to a more reggae sound which is slower and softer with just as much energy. Their lyrics are about getting by, being stuck in low paying jobs, being poor, not having an education , their own personal issues with drugs and alcohol , and even killing their parents . They have been described as "aging punks" which they say is their favorite description. And they make no secret of any of their influences from Green Day , NOFX, Sum 41 to Less Than Jake and Agent Orange , the reggae influence pervades a lot of their material. They have been reviewed by the "LA Times", which described them as a "street-smart punk quartet" and a "hardcore punk band". Tenderloin Thieves makes no pretensions to being a great band. They make no excuses or apologies for their own lack of worldliness. In fact, they fully embrace their self-constructed role as street kids from the wrong side of town. They are willfully ignorant.
